The Philippines is one of the most famous countries in the world known for its natural beauty. Composed of at least 7,107 jaw-dropping islands, our beloved country is not only rich in beautiful beaches but also boasts of an abundant marine life. In fact, the Philippines ranks fifth in the world in terms of number of varieties of flora and fauna. This piece of paradise is the home of at least 700 endangered species.
It’s just impossible to miss the numerous eye-catching photos of the Philippines’ pristine beaches and turquoise seas that continuously make rounds on social media. From Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, the Philippines has a lot to be proud of. In fact, three among the 7,107 islands were recently recognized by Conde Nast Traveler in its 2019 Readers’ Choice Awards – Boracay, Palawan and Cebu.
After a six-month rehabilitation that started October last year, the paradise that is Boracay was named “Best island in Asia” while Cebu came second. Palawan, on the other hand ranked fourth, behind Penang in Malaysia and before Bali, Indonesia. These results were based on a survey of 600,000 voters. Instead of a single list of best islands in the world like how they used to rank it, the international travel magazine opted to name them according to region: Asia, Australia and South Pacific, Caribbean and the Atlantic, Europe, North America, Africa and the Indian Ocean.
Conde Nast described Boracay as “an itty-bitty island (just under four square miles) in the Western Philippines that is as close to a tropical idyll as you’ll find in Southeast Asia, with gentle coastlines and made-for-Instagram sunsets. The aptly named White Beach is Boracay’s main draw, with powdery white sand and shallow azure water ideal for swimming and snorkeling.”
