OK folks, breaking news! Gazini Ganados is the REAL winner of the National Costume competition. Yes, you heard that right. We were also confused as the pageant host, Steve Harvey announced Gazini as the winner of the National costume competition while projecting Gazini’s picture who is wearing her eagle-inspired costume on the screen as Miss Malaysia Shweta Sekhon is standing beside Steve. Confused as he is, Steve had taken his words and announced that Miss Malaysia is the winner. Feels nostalgic, isn’t it?
Hours after the crowning of Miss Africa Zozibini Tunzi as the Miss Universe 2019, the Miss Universe Organization wrote a tweet that made us all go, “Oh, wow not again” and say, “I knew it!” In a tweet they confirmed that Steve was right and Gazini was truly the winner of the special award.
“Steve Harvey had it right: Miss Universe Philippines Gazini Ganados is the winner of the Miss Universe 2019 National Costume competition! Congratulations, Gazini.”
Who could ever forget the most memorable and most intriguing, or may we say historical, announcement of the winner of Miss Universe 2015? In case you don’t know, Steve Harvey was the host. He mistakenly announced that Miss Colombia was the winner instead of Miss Philippines. The host held the responsibility of his mistake thus making him a “favorite” host of the prestigious competition and it seemed like history was to repeat itself, making Filipino and Malaysian pageantry fans express their two cents about the said “mistake”.
Fans, spectators, and pageant enthusiasts’ slammed the Miss Universe Organization and criticized them on how they were being “unprofessional.” They all felt unfair and heartbroken for Malaysia and the Philippines. Some are saying that the organizer is doing it just for the sake of trends. They requested the organization to stop playing with the nations’ emotions. They were also requesting for an explanation and a conference or public apology from the organizers.
It was indeed a nerve cracking and a roller coaster ride of emotion, and during these times we all can feel the true meaning of nationalism and patriotism. We are still proud of you Gazini. Congratulations!
