Disney announced the live action remake of one of our childhood favorite Disney films, The Little Mermaid and as it sparked joy to the fans it also gained a lot of speculations on who will fit to portray the role of Prince Eric on this remake. The role was offered to several artists and actors, one of which was Harry Styles. It was speculated that Harry would be the best fit for becoming Prince Eric, but he “respectfully decline the offer”.
“Although he is a fan of the project he has respectfully passed,” a representative for Harry Styles confirmed the news. As all we know, the singer-actor has made his debut in acting in the year 2017 with Christopher Nolan’s WWII film Dunkirk, and reports suggested that the role given to Harry was premature. Last July, Harry was already talk-of-the-town to be the Prince Eric, but he wasn’t sure on the suitability or being available for the role offered to him.
The live-action remake of The Little Mermaid will be directed by Rob Marshall and written by David Magee. And although in the original movie Prince Eric didn’t to sing, this remake will feature the original songs and will contain news songs composed by Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda. So, technically Disney is eyeing an actor/ singer/ artist that has the guts and voice to sing not just only a “prince” per se that’s why Harry Styles as a former member of One Direction would have served as such a perfect fit though.
Meanwhile Halle Bailey as been confirmed Ariel. Melissa McCarthty is in the talks to play as the wicked seawitch Ursula as well as Awkwafina who is wanted to voice Scuttle, the seagull while Javier Bardeem is being eyed for the role of King Triton, the Father of Ariel.
Half a year has passed and it has been a good year for Disney’s remakes. We are all looking forward for The Little Mermaid live-action movie.
