Let’s face it. Idris Elba is a legend so if he starred in the Cats musical, had to go through all that cat training, and survived the shooting and out of this world training without actually knowing still what the Cats musical is still exactly about, then we can finally be proud to say that we actually have no idea too.
Elba filmed Cats right after he shot the newest installation to the Fast and the Furious series, Hobbs and Shaw which is currently showing in theaters world wide as of now. With the promotion of that having just recently stopped; however, since the movie has premiered anyway, Elba is now on to promoting Cats where he plays the trickster cat, Macavity. When asked though on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert what exactly the movie was about, Elba confidently answered that it was a classical musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber until he trailed off, not knowing exactly what to say.
“I guess it’s about a cat? How am I doing?” He genuinely says. He then goes on to say, “It’s one cat’s journey towards what is essentially Cat Heaven. The idea is we all… you know, we aspire to get towards Cat Heaven. It’s this young cat… and she gets sort of… you know… taken on this story about how to get to Cat Heaven. Or what you should do to get into Cat Heaven. How am I doing? Does anyone know what the story is?!” Nope. Don’t worry Idris, because we’re pretty sure majority of the world doesn’t actually know what the Cats musical is about. We’re just actually really happy to know that you’re a part of that majority.
Cats will be showing sometime at the end of this year. If you’re confused and think watching the movie will help you understand the musical, why don’t you go watch it? Maybe you’d even get to explain it to us!
Meanwhile, here is Idris Elba’s full confused Cats moment on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
