Did you know that the oldest running beauty pageant in the international stage is not Miss Universe? In 1951, a prestigious beauty pageant titled “Miss World” was created in United Kingdom by Julia Morley. Together with other contests such as Miss International, Miss Earth, and of course – Miss Universe, Miss World stands as one of the most coveted beauty titles and biggest international beauty pageants in the world.
This year’s 69th Miss World beauty pageant will be held in London, United Kingdom on December 14. Currently, the top 40 candidates out of 111 had been selected – and our country’s bet – Michelle Dee made it to the list. However, Michelle didn’t make it to the top 10 models. With fingers crossed, fans are hoping for the best whilst sending love and full support to Michelle – who would someday equal or even surpass her beauty queen mom 1979 Miss International, Melanie Marquez.
Miss World Philippines franchise-holder and Michelle’s manager Arnold Vegafria told the press that the young Filipina beauty queen has consistently turned heads the moment she set foot in London last November. In fact, Michelle has been topping the charts among the candidates. She stunned the organizers at the Head-To-Head Challenge where she voiced out her ongoing advocacy for autism. Her introduction video also left an impact as she stated her purpose of joining the prestigious pageant, “I embarked on this pageant journey driven by purpose and motivated by my heart, knowing this is bigger than myself. It is for my siblings, my family, my advocacy, and for the Filipino people.”
Michelle expressed her sincere gratitude to talented Filipino designers who contributed to her wardrobe for the pre-pageant activities: Renee Salud, Nono Palmos, Chris Nick, and Jojo Bragais.” Her national costume was designed by famous fashion designer Francis Libiran.
Watch out for the live telecast of the Miss World 2019 beauty pageant at GMA-7 this Saturday night, December 14, at 10 in the evening and find out if Michelle will take home the crown!
