Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach and Miss World 2013 Megan Young plus other beauty queens lead the 2019 SEA Games Opening Ceremony

The much anticipated 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games opening ceremonies were held last Saturday, November 30, in the Philippine Arena, Bulacan. The opening ceremonies showcased the rich and diverse culture of the Filipino’s through dance and singing performances of several Filipino talents and artists, coming from different places of the country.

Aside from the delegates coming from different participating countries, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach and Miss World 2013 Megan Young, alongside other beauty queens served as the muse for the 11 teams at the Santa Cruzan inspired parade.

Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach led the Philippine team while Miss World 2013 Megan Young was the Indonesian team’s muse as she won the Miss World 2013 title in Bali.

The beauty queens were clad in ternos designed by renowned fashion designer Eric Pineda, where he highlighted local materials from different regions of the country. Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach expressed what she felt being able to represent the country, “So happy and blessed to represent our beloved country at the opening of the 30th Southeast Asian Games. Goodluck to all the hardworking athletes. Mabuhay po kayo at mabuhay ang bansang Pilipinas!” She wrote on her Instagram post.

The Philippine delegates behind Pia were all dressed in barongs made of jusi, a fabric made from abacá or banana silk made by famous Filipino designer Francis Libiran.

Meanwhile, Miss World 2013 Megan Young in terno with Kiping details was inspired with the Philippine flag colors. She expresses her gratitude to lead delegates from Indonesia. On her Instagram she wrote, “What an amazing experience it was to be a part of the opening number! Each of us walked with a participating country earlier and I’m so happy I got to walk with the Indonesian athletes…Indonesia will always be a country dear to my heart because that’s where I won Miss World…” Megan also took pictures with Pia captioning, “took some photos backstage with Queen P @piawurtzbach who walked with the Philippine athletes during the opening number! Nakakakilabot nung sinabi ung ‘PHILIPPINES’!!! During that moment we were all just so proud to be Filipino.”

Other beauty queens who served as muses were Miss Multinational 2017 Sophia Senoron for Cambodia, Miss Intercontinental 2018 Karen Gallman for Brunei Darussalam, Miss International 2005 Lara Quigaman for Malaysia, Miss Eco International 2018 Cynthia Thomalla for Laos, Miss Earth 2017 Karen Ibasco for Myanmar, Miss Earth 2014 Jamie Herrell for Singapore, Miss Earth 2015 Angelia Ong for Thailand, Miss Tourism International 2017 Jannie Alipo-on for Timor Leste, and Miss Asia Pacific International 2018 Sharifa Akeel for Vietnam.
