Last March, Direk Irene Villamor collaborated with Singaporean video streaming service HOOQ and released a romantic drama movie starring famous celebrities Nadine Lustre and Carlo Aquino under VIVA Films. The film used elements of magic realism in its storytelling about a young woman, Maya, who grew up alternately captivated and scared of the rain, stalked by storms and the infamous half-human folklore creature tikbalang. “Ulan” is the first original film of HOOQ in the Philippines. The original self-titled soundtrack of the movie was performed by Janine Tenoso and was released in March 8, 2019.
At the recently held Asian Academy Creative Awards, lead stars Carlo Aquino and Nadine Lustre dominated as they bagged the most coveted recognitions in the regional list of winners. Irene Villamor’s Ulan garnered a total of seven awards, including Best Actor and Best Actress in a Leading Role for Carlo and Nadine, respectively. The film was also awarded Best Cinematography, Best Direction (Fiction), Best Original Screenplay, Best Sound, and Best Feature Film during the prestigious event.
This is Nadine’s fourth Best Actress award in this year alone, as she received the same distinction for her recent movie with long time beau James Reid, Never Not Love You at Young Critics Circle, FAMAS and Gawad Urian.
