Heads up to our Eco-warriors! Prada is launching their newest bag collection: the Re-Nylon and materials will be produced from ocean waste. The synthetic nylon fabric will be made out of ocean plastic, fishing nets, and textile fibre waste.
Lorenzo Bertelli, head of marketing and communication at the Prada Group, had mentioned in an interview with the Business of Fashion, “move towards more sustainable manufacturing approaches” as a result of the new line. He also explains, “It’s a massive reduction of nylon and a big impact in terms of sustainability. We want to do things not just for marketing reasons, but seriously, in big numbers.” And for that, Prada’s newest bag collection, Re-Nylon, had been dubbed as ‘The start of an era’.
“Focusing on innovative materials will allow the company to explore new boundaries of creative design while meeting the demand for ethical products,” Miuccia Prada, Mario’s granddaughter, stated in an interview. Purely sustainable and economic friendly products is what luxurious brand-Prada is aiming to meet for the year 2020 to meet the demand for ethical products.
The nylon bag is made from Econyl, a nylon made from recycled plastic and has been used by the well-known brands such as Stella McCartney, Adidas, and Triumph. Prada has collaborated with the Italian textile producer Aquafil to use its sustainable nylon. Watch how they turn ocean plastics to a sustainable nylon.
The Prada’s nylon bag collection will include six bags for both men and women, including a tote bag, a belt bag, a shoulder bag, and two backpacks.
Recycling nylon is one of the most environmental-friendly steps which brands can make. Prada’s way to be sustainable with their raw materials is quite challenging but will soon pay off in the long run. Taking care of our environment and being comfortable in fashion is a proud moment for Prada.
