Since 2011, the annual Philippine Tatler Ball has become one of the highly awaited gatherings of Metro Manila’s social almanac. Members of the top class come together during this prestigious night of whimsical glamour and class: from industry big shots, tycoons, beautiful faces, to young and aspiring leaders.
But wait a minute, did you know that the Tatler Ball is more than just glitz, glamour, spritz, luxury, and champagne? This momentous night is and was a celebration to raise funds for worthy causes. It is also an event where outstanding members of the society who have significant impact to this world are recognized for their selflessness and remarkable achievements. The Philippine Tatler selects a worthy cause to sponsor every year. The money is collected through generous personal donations from the higher class combined with proceeds from their charity auction that takes place during the Ball itself. Invitations are sent out about a month before the actual event; and together with this is the overwhelming influx of cash donations.
This year, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) was chosen by Tatler to become their beneficiary due to the current issues about global warming. The goal is to preserve the planet to provide a beautiful place to live in for the generations to come. This project includes building a new Earth Hour Village equipped with solar energy, container gardening, and water catchment systems for poor Filipinos living in suburban communities. Aside from this, environmental education modules will also be supported by integrating them in public school curriculums through the help of “Teach for the Philippines”. WWF’s Forests for Water program, which supports a portion of Ipo Watershed, is also in their list. The 18th Tatler Ball aims to raise P8,000,000 this year. All proceeds will benefit the said cause as the cost of the ball itself is shouldered by Tatler.
The 18th Philippine Tatler Ball was held in Shangrila at The Fort last November 16; and we rounded up our best dressed among the attendees.
