It all started in 2003 when Ebe Dancel, Jal Taguibao and Mitch Singson launched Sa Wakas, the first Sugarfree album at Freedom Bar in Quezon City. Burnout, Mariposa, Telepono, and Hari ng Sablay are a few among their most notable songs that has marked its place in the local indie pop music scene. However, in 2011, Sugarfree disbanded in a farewell concert called Paalam Pilipinas held at Eastwood, Libis, Quezon City. From then on, Ebe, or more formally known as Vincent Ferdinand Dancel, decided to pursue a career on his own.
Born and raised in Isabela, the forty three year old singer and songwriter revealed that he once dreamt to become a priest at an early age. However, Ebe decided to pursue his career in music when he started playing his brother’s guitar at an early age.
During his solo career, Ebe has released a total of two full albums: Dalawang Mukha Ng Pag-Ibig and Bawat Daan. He also sang the song Purihin Ka, a finalist in the UNTV’s 1st Gospel Talent Show, ASOP: A Song Of Praise in 2012. In 2015, Ebe commissioned a song for Manny Pacquiao’s life story Kid Kulafu – Padayon. Regine Velasquez, KZ Tandingan and Yeng Constantino are just a few of the mainstream artists that Ebe collaborated with during journey as a solo musician.
Fast forward to 2020 – more or less twenty years after he formed the iconic band Sugarfree, Ebe announced that he will be staging his first ever solo concert with astounding twenty-piece orchestra The Manila String Machine on the last day of February next year at the Metrotent Convention Center in Pasig City. The concert will be under the direction of Paolo Valenciano and Chino David. Tickets will be available starting this October 31 priced at P3,500 for Gold and P2,500 for Silver through ticket2me.
